Regarding Account Number: ____________________
Dear Debt Collector:
It has been brought to my attention that you are currently attempting to collect on an old debt. Upon further review, I have discovered that the debt in question is no longer collectible. As you may or may not know, the statute of limitations in my state has expired.
I therefore dispute your right to collect on this debt and do not acknowledge any legal responsibility to pay it. If you choose to file for a judgment, I will attend the proceedings and inform the court that the statute of limitations has expired.
All collection attempts for this debt shall cease immediately or you risk penalties of up to $1,000 for each violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If you choose to ignore my rights and continue collection activities, it is my intent to sue you in a court of law for damages.
Only a written notification of your termination of collection activities may be mailed to me, unless there are specific communications that may be sent under state law or the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. All other communications, either by phone, electronic communication or mail must cease immediately.
Sincerely,
Your Name
