How to Mend My Credit: The Best Defense is a Good Offense |
By Ashley Russell on February 1, 2011
Some say the best defense is a good offense. In credit this is a fact. Everyone uses credit at some point in time in their lives. Whether it is for a loan to buy your first house or maybe even your first car, with a bad credit score these loans can be impossible to get. Improve your credit with these following steps.
The first step to improving credit is being smart with your choices. Only get a credit card as needed and try to stick to one credit card. If you have one card, then you have only one payment, and it will be easier to keep up with the payments. It also looks bad to credit card companies when you continuously get new cards.
The second step is to be aware of the consequences with getting a new card. Be sure to search through all of the available credit cards to decide which one is right for your wants and needs. Pay close attention to the rates and fees as well as the stuff in the fine print that could really hurt you in the end.
The third step is to keep up with your credit score. Make sure that everything on your credit report is from you. Errors on your credit report could hinder you from getting loans in the future.
The forth step is to make your payments on time. Even if you have out a lot of loans at once, however unfavorable that is, it is beneficial for credit companies to see that you keep up with your payments and do not fall behind. Another thing to take into consideration is the interest rate on your loans. Be sure to pay the loans with the highest interest rate first because the money going to the interest on those could go to your other loans.
Credit is hard to gain but easy to lose. Being smart with your money and your spending can make a world of difference with your credit score. Companies want to see that you can manage your money; otherwise they will not want to lend you their money. |
