Get Out of Debt Books

By Ashley Russell on January 18, 2012

reading-(1).jpgFor the many Americans in debt, expensive get-out-of-debt programs are often the wrong answer to their problems. Some Americans by nature are do-it-yourselfer's; they like to make their own way and paying some other company to get them out of debt often goes against their beliefs. Also many of the programs are scams or can do more harm with their penalties and fees than good. But that still leaves many Americans without the proper knowledge for fixing their financial problems. Finances are something that is missed in public education in America—a void that can be narrowed by a few good books. There are just as many get out of debt books as get out of debt programs, but the following are some of the beneficial ones.

Zero Debt: The Ultimate Guide to Financial Freedom by Lynnette Khalfani-Cox is a great book because of the vast experience of the author.  Lynnette and her husband, Earl, have written numerous books. The unique thing about this book is that they also launched a website where individuals can get personalized advice about their situations. This process allows individuals who learned from her book to further apply the lessons learned into their own lives. Her books have become so popular and successful that Lynette is now known as "The Money Coach." She has vast experience as a reporter on financial matters on Wall Street, including two Dow Jones International News Awards for reporting on financial scams and trends. In the book she attempts to give individuals hope that they can get out of debt and lays out numerous ways to help with their situations. She also educates them on their rights and legal proceedings, which can be very confusing. Overall it is a great book that has had great success, and in combination with the website and nationwide tours, can really help individuals get out of debt.

Debt is Slavery and 9 Other Things I Wish My Dad Had Taught Me About Money is also a great purchase for someone looking to improve their financial situation.  Like the title hints, author Michael Mihalik centers this book around easy to understand lessons about money that everyone really should know. One great thing about this book is Mihalik is not a writer by trade, or even a finance guru. Instead, he is an everyday American who, while working his "normal" job as an aerospace engineer, learned the hard way about finance. To save others from his same fate, he decided to take the time and pass his lessons learned on to others.

Overall, there are many get out of debt books out there to help individuals with the financial problems. The best way to determine the value of the book is to look at the reviews and the author’s prior writing ability. Not many writers are like Michael Mihalik and write great books with little experience, but the comments from prior readers can lead individuals to books worth their time.
